sir' i have to do my assingment plz help me Q1 "Is there a movement from procedural language to non-procedural language in today’s application context? Are procedural language still as widely used as they are before?" Q2. "4th generation languages lead to increased productivity, when compared to 3rd generation languages." 2. "4th generation language allow for greater user participation" 3. "3rd generation language are more machine efficient that 4th generation languages." 4. "3rd generation languages are easier to test and maintain than 4th generation language" i was told to write a report comparing the difference of 4th and 3rd generation languages based on these statements. thank so much. Q3 A compiler translates all sourse code in a program to machine language instructions before any of the coded instructions are executed.for any one programming language, one is likely to find different compilers made by software houses. one factor of comparison, for example,is the quality of the out put program produced by the compiler and discuss some factors in which compilers for programming languages can be compared you should discuss at least three distinct factors.

sir' i have to do my assingment plz help me Q1 "Is there a movement from procedural language to non-procedural language in today’s application context?

Dear Sir, I’am currently doing research (in University Malaya, Malaysia) component based development and reusability. I’ve read through your book titled Software Engineering, A practitioner Approach as one of my references book for my research. I’m interested with your statement which says that there are three key issues that form a basis for designing reuseability (by Binder). One of them is a program template that you claimed it is a structure model can serve as a template for the architectural design of a new program. But I’m trying to find out other resources (articles from journals/conferences) etc about that statement but, unfortunately I didn’t find much. I appreciate if you could give your opinion on that issues/topic how can I get more recourses about that topic. Thank you for your co-operation.

Dear Dr. Pressman. Binari Technologies is composed of six Algonquin College students from Ontario Canada. We are currently working steadly on a project for the National Research Council Canada. We're writing you this message to express our great admriation for your work, 'Software Engineering: A Practitioner's Approach'. Your text has guided Binari Technologies through the ups and downs of getting a project from the Analysis Phase to its Implementation. We are now currently in the Design Phase of our project and the construction of our Design Document requires an Object-Oriented approach. We as a team, are wondering if you could recommend any further readings regarding Object-Oriented Design, that is comparable to your text. We realize that your schedule is most likely very hectic, but any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much Dr. Pressman, and wish us LUCK! Binari Technologies

Jady: The degree of detail that is incorporated into a detailed design depends on who will be doing the implementation. If the designer and the implementer (coder) are the same person, the level of detailed design detail may be reduced. However, if the designer and implementer are different people, it is best to provide enough detail so that misunderstanding and/or misinterpretations are kept to a minimum.

Carolyn: MS Project and spreadsheet software are fundamentally different apps and should be used where they are most appropriate. MS project is appropriate for project scheduling and is far superior to any spreadsheet application that attempts to accomplish the same thing. On the other hand, spreadsheet software is appropriate for limited database capabilities, and for full scale number crunching.

Omer: Product transition refers to the ability to move or “port?software from one computing environment to another. The ability to achieve effective transition is accomplished through good design. In general, software that is tightly coupled to an operating system or to specific hardware is more difficult to transition that software that is loosely coupled.

Nowadys, I often find that many softs use ini files, instead of dll files, to support multi-languages such as Flash get, Netants, Createinstall and so on. They employ a ini file to support another language, and need not modify the exe file. As a result, this method is better than the former. But I can not think of how to do it. Can you give me a favour?

Dear Dr. Pressman:I am writing my thesis for Master's Degree now,by reference to "object-oriented design of data warehouse",I try to use UML to realize model of data warehouse because I think problem relative to object-oriented can be resolved by UML.Though I have almost completed my work,I wanna more theory support, especially words of authority in field of OO and DW.I wonder if you can give me some suggestion?Thank you !

Sonal Parekh: In my opinion, the answer is no. I view configurable items as work produicts produced as part of the software engineering process. It is true that the plan delineates the approach that the project team is to take. It is also true that a good plan will change as development activities progress. However, I do not think that change control needs to be applied to the plan, nor do I believe that the plan itself needs to be placed under SCM control. The plan is a road map for the project manager and his/her team and can therefore be treated more casually than, let's say, a design document.

Yasmin & Janne: Both of your questions focus on RUP (and related tools). I’ll address each briefly. First, there really is no “OO process?per se. There have been many OO methods proposed over the past 15 years. The generic OO process is based on an evolutionary, iterative process model in which analysis, design, implement and test activities are applied iteratively as the software evolves. The Rational unified process is really just that—an attempt to develop a unified approach to OO development using UML as the underlying modeling approach and basic software engineering philosophy as the basis for the process model itself. Entire books (e.g., Jacobsen et al, THE UNIFIED SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS, Addison-Wesley, 1999) have been dedicated to the UP. It important to note that the RUP emphasizes a focus on architecture—a very good thing. With regard to tools for UML and CASE, there are many, many options. I always hesitate to discuss tools because people take my discussion as a recommendation and I can not do that without a detailed understanding of your SE environment. See http://plg.uwaterloo.ca/~migod/uml.html for a useful discussion of UML tools (including Rational’s offerings.) Another excellent resource for OOA, OOD, UML tools is http://www.cetus-links.org/oo_ooa_ood_tools.html.

Helenchan: A Gantt chart is nothing more than a time-line scheduling chart that is used by project maagers to track tasks (represented by horizontal bars) against some timeline (e.g., days, weeks, months). Today, it is unnecessary to do the arithmetic and theory associated with Gantt charts (just as it is unnecessary to compute square roots by hand) because very good PC-based scheduling tools do all of the work for you. A tool such as Microsoft Project (this is not an endorsement, just an example) provides many useful representations for project managers (including Gantt charts) and performs all necessary computations.

Paddy Chen: Consider a state transition diagram (STD) representation for your real time system. Each stimulus between an “actor?and the system represents a state change in the STD. Therefore, to identify the appropriate actor(s) you must define the external entities that communicate with the real time software. Finding the appropriate actors is, as you note, not always easy. A good starting point is to consider the R/T software in a system context. What devices does it service? What other systems does it communicate with? These identify what Ivar Jacobsen calls “primary actors.?You can also consider the key functions for the R/T software. Those functions that are involved in supervising and maintaining the R/T software may lead you to discover “secondary actors.?I would suggest reading Ivar Jacobsen’s work on use cases and OOSE. It provides much guidance in this area. Good

Hi,Dr. Pressman: I am an software engineer, working on realtime system software design, e.g, CDMA base-station system software. I feel very diffcult to indentify an "Actor" in these kind of systems. Our realtime software runs on a hardware card and exchange messages with other equitments, and the message flow defined by the standard specification, FSM triggered by messages, so I don't know what is a exact "actor" in this system, the message? or the corresponding equitments? or the operator who operates the system by his terminal? and there many many operations triggered by some internal events, e.g, error event, overload event. If I want to write the use case to these events, how can I indentify the "Actors". Hope my questions will not bother you much, Thank you very much and looking forward to your response, thanks again

sp: As time passes, we're beginning to see less and less use of SA/SD (often replaced by UML). However, the methods are still powerful and useful. They are appropriate whenever conventional software development is to be used (as opposed to OO development) and when applications that transform or transact data are to be developed. Some elements of SA/SD (e.g., ERDs) will be used into the forseeable future. Others (e.g., DFDs, CFDs) may become obsolete as the trend toward OO systems dominates SE work.

Jaury: Entire books have been written on this subject and complete standards are available from IEEE and other sources. Suffice to say that testing moves from "small" to "large". That is, we begin by testing a small component of the software, slowing integrating tested components into larger software functionality. Finally, we test "in the large" be validating the integrated system against the requirements established for it. In every case, our intent is to find errors. I should note that the test strategy for OO systems is somewhat different, but the same philosophy applies.
